Internet on the Go

When I am traveling I always like to be able to keep tabs on the goings on around the nation via the internet. Unfortunately as I travel along the highway and stop at one of the highly advertised WIFI Hotspots I generally find that they are useless. Often times they are so heavily password protected that I don't even understand why the various states or agencies even bother to offer them. I was discussing this problem with my brother and he provided me with some very useful information on getting on the internet while traveling.

Unfortunately as I travel along the highway and stop at one of the highly advertised WIFI Hotspots I generally find that they are useless. Often times they are so heavily password protected that I don't even understand why the various states or agencies even bother to offer them. I was discussing this problem with my brother and he provided me with some very useful information on getting on the internet while traveling.

In order to achieve this feat you would need a laptop computer as well as an inexpensive cell phone. He suggested that I purchase one of the popular $19.95 Motorola "Go Phones". These are readily available at any major department store such as Target or Wal-Mart's.

Next remember you do not activate your telephone at this time but visit your local Cingular/AT&T shop to have them activate it. Keep in mind that you are not going to use a normal activation on this phone. Don't in any way activate or do anything to your SIMM card as this can be activated by Cingular when you setup your telephone with them.

You will next need to purchase a time for your telephone. This can be in increments of 200 minutes. This time can be purchased at the Cingular office when the phone is activated. You can arrange to have this money taken directly out of your checking account or credit card each month if you so desire. Two hundred minutes of time will only cost $19.95 and these are rollover minutes. If you do not use them up one month they can be added to the next month's total. After you have Cingular set you up with the 200 minutes of time you can now select one of their programs for unlimited internet. This is another of the $19.95 programs that they have. This internet time does not come off of your 200 minutes of time each month but is separate.

There is a particular piece of software that you will also require and it is called "Motorola Phone Tools". This software should be installed on your laptop and will be the interface between the computer and your telephone. The last item that you will require is a special USB cable that goes from the telephone to the laptop. Fortunately the Dollar Tree store usually carries them and the cost is naturally $1.00. It wouldn't hurt to pick up and keep a couple of them in your laptop case in the event that your first one becomes damaged.

There you are when you want to use the internet merely turn on your equipment and run up the phone tools program and you will be well on your way to browsing the net. It may not be high speed internet such as DSL or Cable but you can in fact connect and that is the important thing.
